Daniel Buren. MODULATION. Arbeiten in situ

Daniel Buren’s deep involvement with the Neue Museum in Nuremberg begins with a precise analysis of the specific form of the building, followed by the spatial interventions of the artist through his installation of objects, as well as through surface design, and finally the resulting changes in experiences and ways of seeing. Architect Volker Staab designed this award-winning building with its characteristics of large glass facades and freely suspended staircase. The geometric motives of circular segment and square are conspicuous, as is the combination of glass, concrete and wood. In a choreography taking in the full extent of the museum, Buren’s visitors are guided through the building: from the outer facade into the interior space, from the ticket office into the lower foyer, from the staircase to the exhibition hall. Buren’s works have been freshly created, exclusively for the site of the Nuremberg Museum. The publication documents Buren’s exciting interpretation and captures the temporary interventions so that they can be experienced later on.
