A day in the life of… Viviane Sassen

In the limited edition series A day in the life of… photographers are portraying a day in their lives, fiction as non-fiction. The fifth publication in this monthly series is completed by Amsterdam based Viviane Sassen who put together a sequence of pictures done with a digital point-and-shoot during a day in Marsa Alam, Egypt, where she spent a holiday with her family, February 2009. She mainly focused on her young son Lucius. After studying fashion, photography and a degree in Fine Arts, Viviane Sassen started working for magazines, as well as exhibiting her artwork at galleries and museums. She developed a strong personal style, especially recognizable in a sensitive yet graphic approach; the use of shadows and the deformation of the human body. Her images rather raise questions than statements. Her work has been published in magazines such as Purple, I-D, Self Service, Fantastic Man, Dazed & Confused, Vogue Paris and shot campaigns for Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton and Tsumori Chisato to name a few. Her work concentrates mainly on Africa; her new book Flamboya has recently been released by Contrasto Publishers. Concept, design and editing by creative unit Andreas och Fredrika.
