BLAUWE MAANDAG (BLUE MONDAY)

Blauwe Maandag (Blue Monday) documents a local issue in Amsterdam, and one day of fierce protest–24 March 1973–against the demolition of the historic Nieuwmarkt area of the city to make way for an underground railway link. Nine young Dutch photogrpahers (named by not credited individually) photogrphed the battles between the demonstrators and the police in their blue uniforms–hence the ‘blue’ Monday of the title. The book is as striking as of the Japanese protest books–grainy black-and-white double page bleeds with handwritten overprinted captions, punctuated with newspaper clippings and drawings.–Parr & Badger.

cm 20,5×14; pp. 64; 56 BW ills.; paperback. Publisher: Aktiegroep Nieuwmarkt, Amsterdam, 1975.
