We Are the World: Venice Biennale 2003

Description: We Are the World–the Dutch pavilion for the latest Venice Biennale, not the 80s international rock charity event–focuses on our contemporary multicultural reality, international developments in art and the biennial’s theme of Dreams and Conflicts. A world-weighty mass of topics, surely, but one which curator Rein Wolf locates in the work of Carlos Amorales, Alicia Framis, Meschac Gaba, Jeanne van Heeswijk and Erik van Lieshout. These five artists, all based in the Netherlands, stem from various cultural backgrounds; their individual approaches to making art complement and interact with one another. The design of the exhibition catalogue, by the Experimental Jetset collective, is modeled on a double-LP record cover, one sleeve filled with text and the other with posters of work by the individual artists.

pp. 48; Publisher: Artimo Foundation, Amsterdam, 2003.
