Writer and researcher Eva Smallegange, who lived and worked in Burundi from 2006-2007, collaborated with photographer Anaïs López to document positive stories in this post-conflict region. Befriended by her driver, Koky, a man who seemingly knows everybody, Smallegange found herself at the heart of Burundian society. With its candid look at the everyday lives of Burundians from all walks of life, from bishops and nuns to government officials and families, the book uses popular expressions, graphics, playful anecdotes and personal narratives, not to mention many remarkable photographs, to construct a portrait of this African society in transition.
