Figures, Environments

Catalog of the exhibition, “Figures Environments” held at the Walker Art Center May 15 to June 30, 1970, that traveled to the Cincinnati Art Museum October 2 to November 1, 1970, and the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts December 13, 1970 to January 17, 1971.

From the Introduction: “This exhibition presents some recent attitudes about the figure, beyond those found in traditional techniques.Works shown are essentially three-dimensional, and many strain traditional definitions of sculpture.Common historical and stylistic affinities relate the work of some artists in the exhibition, but no case can be made for a single style or philosophy. This is a curious, and on occasion eccentric, assortment of approaches.”
