Product Description
Bodycheck – slamming one body against another, in hockey, or scrutinizing the corpus, in medicine. In art terms however, Bodycheck is a close examination of contemporary sculptural practice, an exhibition and catalogue that will function as a timely exploration to this under-surveyed artistic medium. Bodycheck seeks to address the visceral nature of sculpture, the art form that does not address the isolated eye but the whole perceiving body. In this way the exhibition places sculpture as the opposite of a mass-produced object in our experience, and therefore a stumbling block or challenge, to our preconceived, readymade and convenient lifestyles. This catalogue is published on the occasion of the 10th Contemporary Sculpture Triennial with essays by Fritz Emslander, Nicole Fritz, Harriet Zilch, Barbara Wagner and others. Artists included in the exhibition: Joseph Beuys, Fischli & Weiss, Katharina Fritsch, Sabine Groß, Eva Hesse, Rita McBride, Paul McCarthy, Olaf Metzel, Jason Rhoades, Gregor Schneider, Paul Thek, Where Dogs Run, and many others.
