Product Description
Each time she changes dresses, make-up and posing, Tomoko Sawada took somewhat 400 self-portraits, using photo -shooting venders throughout the city of Japan. They are images of what she is, what she wants to be, and what other sees her. Having been confused in defining herself, the number of images seem to grow forever. Hopes and naive ambitions are added to images of herself, which presents philosophical question, such as ‘How and What do people see’ and ‘what is identity.’ In due course, images are the presentation of the energy to seek the answer to it. The winner of 2003 The Twentieth Annual ICP Infinity Award of Young Photographer, Sawada’s artistic career in search for ‘outside and inside’ in its theme has started from here.
