This folded exhibition broadside was designed by Duchamp for a Man Ray exhibition entitled Objects of My Affection, which took place at the Julien Levy Gallery (NYC) in April, 1945. This photo-mechanical relief print is printed on a folded sheet of medium weight woven paper, and measures 11.5″ x 9″ (29.2 x 22.8 cm.) in the folded position. For the front cover, Duchamp appropriated an image by the Czech cinematographer Alexander Hackenschmied (Hammid). This film still is commonly referred to as “The Kiss”, and possibly comes from a work by the avant-garde film maker Maya Deren. The original zinc plate for this print is part of the Duchamp Archives at the Philadelphia Musuem of Art (please see my final two images). The inside pages feature an artist’s statement by Man Ray, and an exhibition checklist. The back page features a list of Man Ray’s “Objects of My Affection”.
